Now your smartwatch can talk to your gym equipment

Today, Apple’s GymKit launches. It marks Apple’s latest endeavor in its all-encompassing quest to own the connected health and fitness space, and it’s a smart one that makes you wonder why it took anyone this long to bring this simple yet effective technology to market. In short, GymKit lets Apple Watch users pair their device directly to their favorite cardio equipment with the easiest of taps.

The genesis behind Apple’s GymKit is rather straightforward: we’re in a data-gathering era, where we want to know absolutely every number about anything, especially when it comes to our bodies; the Apple Watch possesses the most accurate heart rate monitor of all fitness trackers; lastly, most gym machines aren’t providing accurate data, largely due to people not entering accurate body measurements. This would include calories, heart race, distance, speed, floors climbed, incline and pace, affording users the most accurate metrics and measurements possible with a fitness tracker.
